Cindy Toerner

My family moved to Lake Forest when I was five. Summers were filled with swimming at the Lake Forest Beach and Tennis Club with my siblings and friends. After the tragic drowning of my brother at that very club, my parents chose not to shield us from the water but encouraged us to keep enjoying water sports.

Years later, swimming became a key part of my health journey. While swimming laps, I met some Aquadettes who encouraged me to try out. Artistic swimming pushed me out of my comfort zone and I think that’s a good thing. My teammates inspire me everyday!

I met my husband while delivering to his workplace during my time at FedEx. We enjoy bike rides, camping, dancing, swimming and hanging out with friends.

A life-defining moment: in 1997, I rescued two people from a plane crash in Lake Isabella—an experience I’ll never forget.
