Leslie Lewis


I grew up in Tenafly New Jersey, just outside New York City. On childhood visits to the zoo, I longed to swim like the seals playing in the water. Today, as an Aquadette, I move through the water with that same sense of fun.

My life has been a journey of exploration. I’ve held three distinct careers—flight attendant, lawyer, and Los Angeles Unified School District elementary teacher. Each role brought me rich experiences: living in Puerto Rico and learning Spanish; hearing courtroom testimony in Apache and meeting two Supreme Court Justices; and sharing the joy of learning with students from all walks of life.

And despite my urban Jersey roots, I mastered a skill those long-ago seals could not— milking a cow and squirting the milk straight into a cat’s mouth.

But my favorite accomplishment? Being the mother of two daughters and the grandmother of four.
