Karen Spenser-Cruz


When I was two years old, my family moved from the Midwest to Walnut, California.

Back in Illinois, our family spent the entire summer swimming in our backyard pool.

I was always an excellent swimmer, so that by high school, I had trained to become a certified lifeguard. 

Until 2020 when my husband and I moved to Laguna Woods, I was a family law attorney with the Department of Child Support Services for San Bernardino County.

When I heard about the Village’s artistic swimming team, I had no doubt that I could learn how to perform. 

When I started my Aquadette training, Carol Dolan and Judy Sterrett Rizzo took me under their mermaid fins.  Our coach Bunny is motivating, inspiring, and talented.   Year-round, hot and cold, on their own and in groups, we improve our skills for showtime.
