Judith McCourt

I do not remember learning to swim—but I’m pretty sure I came from a family of fish.

When I was little, my dad would take my sister and me to the old quarry.  The water was freezing and deep enough to swallow a submarine.  But all we cared about was making it to the raft where the older cool kids hung out.

By sophomore year, I was too short for basketball, so I joined the swim team.  Best decision ever: We won the Maine championships twice.  That led to lifeguarding and becoming a water safety instructor, which paid some college bills and also let me yell “No running on the deck!

Before moving to Laguna Woods, I trained with SoCal Masters—perfect prep for the magical, mysterious world of the Aquadettes.

This is my second year on the team and my first show.  Swimming is one thing… doing synchronized stunts while smiling?  Whole different galaxy.
